Lightning is a natural phenomenon that occurs when there's a sudden discharge of electricity in the atmosphere. It can occur between clouds, the ground, or within a cloud
Cloud-to-ground (CG) lightning is a lightning discharge between a thundercloud and the ground. It is initiated by a stepped leader moving down from the cloud, which is met by a streamer moving up from the ground.
Principle of Our ESE Lightning Arrester
The principle of an early streamer emission lightning conductor is to artificially generate, with the aid of an ionization mechanism, an early upward leader occurring before the other natural upward leaders, in order to establish a privileged impact point of the lightning strike. Diagram showing the operating principle for capturing a lightning strike using an early streamer emission conductor
Because the capture of a lightning strike is quicker than with a lightning rod, this technology can be used to protect zones spread over a wider area, thus ensuring the protection of large structures.
The principal of operation for ESE terminals is to create an upward propagating streamer earlier than conventional air terminals or other objects on the earth by collecting and storing ground charge during the initial phase of a thunderstorm development and emits strong and consistent upwards streamers to intercept leaders.
A rod -type lightning conductor, connected to earth, efficiently works by altering, at its level, the equipotential which match the structures of the building it protects.
The emergence of the lightning conductor is an important factor in increasing the local electric field.
The Protection Radius Rp of ESE Terminal is calculated as per NFC 17-102: 2011 Standard
Rp= √h(2D-h)+∆T(2D+∆T)
Gain in triggering time ∆T of the Air Terminal
∆T 60 µ Sec
D=20,45,60 depending on the protection level required (I, II, III) on a given site
h= Height of the lightning air terminal above the surface to be protected (which is h ≤5 Meter)
